Paul challenges us in Ephesians chapter 3 to have a big vision, and teaches that God wants to exceed our greatest expectations. We have been praying for God to give us a big vision for ministry in Amsterdam. In the center of Amsterdam is a 10-block area known as the Red Light District, it is in this area that 25,000 registered prostitutes earn their living. It is our desire to plant the first ever Baptist church in this area.
Amsterdam is a very culturally diverse city of 1.5 million with approximately 400,000 between ages of 18-30... Also, an extremely international community (the population is roughly half Dutch and half international, with 140 different languages spoken in the city)...Many of those who live in Amsterdam hale from countries that are all but impossible for American missionaries to obtain residency in. This makes Amsterdam extremely strategic to world evangelism. Our desire is to minister to these young foreigners living in Amsterdam by teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), then disciple and train them to return to their countries of origin with the Gospel.
